Welcome to my blog and thank you for visiting it! In this post I will be telling you a little bit about myself.
My name is Mackenzie White, I was born on September 9th, 1993 at the St. Catharines General Hospital. I am 19 years old, and I am from a small town called Grimsby located in the Niagara Region of Ontario. I graduated from high school in 2011 with honours and received a Brock University Scholars award and now I am currently finishing off my second year in Kinesiology.
Growing up, I was taught at a young age to strive to be the best I can be. I was put in every sport you could think of. Sports were my life. At age 5 I joined gymnastics, and it was the best thing that every happened to me. I developed strength, flexibility, endurance and coordination. It made me an overall better athlete and most importantly I became very disciplined.
After 8 years of competitive gymnastics, I joined cheerleading immediately. I participated in competitive cheerleading for 6 years and stopped last year due to a back problem. During all of this I was also on the track and field team at my high school and on the Niagara track and field team outside of school (high jump was my forte).
My whole life I was very interested in modelling, and still am. When I was about 12 years old, I was part of a modelling agency in St. Catharines. I took modelling classes, which included, runway, makeup, improv, how to audition and more. I won Miss Teen St. Catharine’s when I was 14 and now my dream is to become Miss Teen Canada-World 2013!
I only have one sibling. My brother is 22 years old and he has travelled to many places around the world training for tennis and now he currently goes to Mississippi State University on a tennis scholarship. So really I am an only child (haha). But I am so proud of my brother and how hard he has worked pursuing something he loves. He is always encouraging and pushing me to succeed. And even better, due to my brother’s tennis success, my parents and I get to join him when he travels to play tennis tournaments. This has brought me to Italy, Spain, Costa Rica, Florida, and Mississippi. I love travelling and experiencing new ways of living. All my life I lived in the country…literally in the middle of nowhere, so my dad could build 3 tennis courts for my brother. Yes, my dad and brother are the biggest sport and fitness fanatics (which is where I get it from!). Although I have lived in the country and small towns my whole life, I see my career aspirations taking me to the big cities in the future.
Speaking of my parents, they are definitely my role models. My mom has worked for 36 years in financial services, working her way from a front line teller to a Vice President of Human Resources and Administration. My mother’s strong work ethic has rubbed off on me. My dad was ranked no. 1 in Canada two times for tennis in the over 40 and 45 age groups. He bungee jumped off Victoria Falls Bridge in Zimbabwe and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. He has travelled to almost 100 countries and wrote a book on budget travel for students. – You can see where I get my adventurous side from!!
One thing I’ve learned about myself is that I will not settle for normality. I want to experience everything in life. I want to experience things outside of my comfort zone. If given an opportunity, I set aside my fears and apprehensions. I don’t want to look back on my life and regret not trying something at least once. Completing the 18km Tough Mudder obstacle course and zip lining are recent examples of my adventurous side. Next on my list: skydiving! 🙂
So now you have learned why I am the person I am today! I will be posting many more blogs throughout my journey to the Miss Teen Canada-World pageant so stay tuned!!! And feel free to leave comments, thank you xo.
